Louise Nevelson Tribute

Hi Everyone,
One of the places that I go to find inspiration is Kathy Barbro's Art projects for Kids Blog.
Kathy did a project with her class based on Loiuse Nevelson's found objects technique. Louise douses her art works in White paint. We couldn't bring ourselves to do that because they looked so good with all of the coloured objects stuck to them .
I loved the way that some children didn't stick to a raft shaped base, even though that was the way I demonstrated the activity for them.
I'm sure that they will want to do this activity again. Maybe next time we will use the white paint. If you would like to see what else Kathy Barbro might inspire you to do click here.

Pasta and Match Stick Collage with a Touch of Gold

Hi Everyone,

Collage has been the focus of many of our Junior Crew art activities this term. We had a cupboard full of pasta pieces and match sticks that had to be used. After a 30 minute session with some macaroni, match sticks, PVA glue and a spray of gold paint when the glue had dried, we had some fantastic collages to decorate the room. Here are just a few!

Hi Everyone,
Last Thursday was our annual swimming carnival. On Friday we were all exhausted! We managed to get through to lunchtime before the wheels fell off!
We tried in vain to read a story together but all anyone wanted to do was roll around and play with fluff balls on the carpet.
Get the idea. We had 3 hours to go and I was feeling a little bit desperate when I asked the children,
'What colour is the carpet?'
'Blue!" they all piped up.
But our carpet isn't blue it has many other specs of colour woven through it, when you have a really close look. So they did.
This 'Make Your Own Carpet Tile' cut and paste activity resulted from one of those unexpected teachable moments. The children were quiet, calm and relaxed by the time we were finished because cutting and pasting while listening to music was a great sensory soother.
Tim's came complete with a fluff ball.

4 Kids 4 Lumps of Clay

Nappy Wipe Art

Our First art project for the year was using house hold food dyes to paint on nappy wipes and coffee filters. The children applied diluted food colouring using various sized paint brushes. The wipes and filters absorb the colouring and new colours are made as the colours spread through the absorbant woven material.
